The 13th European Paediatric Neurology Society (EPNS) Congress, Athens, Greece, 17/09/2019- 21/09/2019 has been accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®) with 24 European CME credits (ECMEC®s). The 3rd EPNS International Advances in Neuromodulation in Children Symposium, Athens, Greece, 16/09/2019-17/09/2019 has been accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®) with 13 European CME credits (ECMEC®s).

Aicardi Award

In recognition of our honorary EPNS member and internationally renowned French child neurologist, Professor Jean Aicardi (1926-2015), the EPNS in partnership with MacKeith Press, has established a series of award lectures. The biennial award recognises a respected and admired doctor who has attained major achievements in child neurology.  Recipients of the award must practice in Europe using the countries in the WHO European region. The award presentation and lecture take place at the EPNS Congress which is held every two years.

The EPNS is delighted to announce that Professor Lieven Lagae will be awarded the 2nd Aicardi Award Lecture at the 13th EPNS Congress.

The Lecture will take place at the welcome reception in Athens on 17 September 2019.

Talk Title: 'Miss Understanding is the Greek Goddess of Clinical Research'
This will be a talk about the problems, challenges, successes and failures of clinical research in paediatric neurology.

Lieven Lagae (Leuven, Belgium)
Lieven Lagae is Full Professor and Head of Paediatric Neurology Department at the University Hospitals of Leuven, Belgium. He has a particular clinical and scientific interest in childhood epilepsy and is involved in many research projects including zebrafish epilepsy models, brain stimulation, preventive treatment in TSC, the use of fenfluramine and analogues in Dravet and Lennox Gastaut syndromes. Lieven Lagae is the immediate past President of the European Paediatric Neurology Society (EPNS) and the current Treasurer of the International Child Neurology Association (ICNA). He published more than 250 scientific papers and is the editor of the McKeith Press book on "Cognition and Behaviour in Childhood Epilepsy". He serves at several scientific journal editorial boards and pharma company advisory boards. He received the 'Cures within Reach Patient Impact Clinical Award' in 2017 and the 2019 Honorary Award of German speaking Pediatric Neurology Society.
